Yllvape Angus Enhanced - Strong hybrid vaporizer with halogen heating system

The centerpiece is the 100W halogen bulb with the ruby pearls sitting above it. The bulb heats the bowl and the pearls, which then act as a convection heater: they release their stored heat into the air flowing through. The result is a heat mass that reliably continues to provide power during long draws instead of dropping off with every puff. Above this sits an oven chamber made of robust stainless steel where the material is placed. The herb material does not have direct contact with the bulb. This produces a vapor that feels balanced overall.

This construction has a practical side effect: if the ruby pearls are still warm, reheating is significantly faster than from a cold state. Those who enjoy several consecutive sessions will therefore notice significantly shorter wait times than during the first round.

Important: The Angus Enhanced is intended exclusively for flowers. The use of concentrates and extracts is strictly advised against, as the halogen bulb is sensitive to them and can be damaged.

On the underside, there is an airflow wheel with which you can steplessly regulate the air intake. The range is broad: when fully open, the draw resistance is almost imperceptible in tests, allowing for very large draws. When closed, the draw becomes tight and restrictive, especially if a dosing capsule is also inserted in the oven. This range is one of the device's strengths because you can change the character of the session without adjusting the temperature: open airflow for volume, throttled airflow for longer contact time between the air and the material.

In terms of pure vapor volume, tests place the Angus Enhanced on the level of portable Arizer devices like the Solo 3 and Air Max, though not quite at the level of the large models from Storz & Bickel. In testing, a herb filling of 0.2 g produces about twelve solid draws, with the quality remaining consistently good up to about the tenth draw.

Three glass stems or glass tubes of different lengths are included with the herb vaporizer, and they definitely make a difference in practical vaping:

• The shortest stem is the most discreet, but gets quite warm at high temperature levels and consequently delivers hotter vapor.
• The middle 70 mm stem is considered a good compromise in tests with noticeably cooler vapor, while the longest one delivers the coolest.
• For those who want even more cooling, there is the included side-bubbler: it removes almost all harshness from the vapor, but in return, it also dampens flavor nuances.
• According to testing, the glass water pipe adapter, which fits standard joints, offers the most open draw.

The Angus Enhanced works with five temperature presets between 180 °C and 220 °C in 10 °C increments. Additionally, there is a boost function: if you hold the button down during the session, the temperature rises by 10 °C, i.e., up to 230 °C at the highest preset. If you let go, it drops back down to the selected value. This is practical for getting an extra hit at the end of a bowl.

If you do not like the five levels, you can change them. The manufacturer provides a program for download to adjust the presets. According to testing, this USB tool runs exclusively on Windows. Mac or Linux users will have to stick with the factory levels, which is sufficient for most in practice.

The heat-up time is around 45 to 55 seconds from a cold state, depending on the target temperature and measurement method; with residual heat in the ruby pearls, it is faster. Each heating cycle runs for five minutes or until you manually switch off the device. Once the target temperature is reached, the Angus Enhanced signals this via vibration. You don't have to stare at the LED ring.

The Angus Enhanced runs on two removable 18650 batteries, which are not included. The manual recommends a matched pair of high-discharge cells, specifically Molicel P28A in flat-top format with 35 A and 2800 mAh. It is important that both cells are of the same type, same age, and same charge level. With a device featuring a powerful 100W heater, one should pay particular attention to such details.

The batteries are changed from the side without having to dismantle the stem holder. If you have spare batteries with you, you can simply keep vaping on the go.

Charging is done via the side USB-C port, which can take about 90 to 120 minutes. One battery charge can last for up to eight sessions.

A number of safety features are built in, such as reverse polarity protection: if you insert a cell the wrong way around, the device simply will not work. There is also overcharge protection, which shuts off and stops the charging process if the battery voltage exceeds 8.4 V or if an individual cell exceeds 4.25 V. Undervoltage is signaled via LED patterns: if LEDs 1, 2, and 3 flash, the cell voltage is below 2.5 V; if LEDs 3, 4, and 5 flash, it drops below this value during operation. Flashing six times indicates a weak battery. In case of overheating, the LED flashes continuously, and the alarm ends only when the device has cooled down to a safe 65 °C.

The Angus Enhanced functions without a display, an app, or Bluetooth. Everything is handled via a single control button and a ring of five LEDs, which indicates both the battery level and the selected preset. Five clicks within two seconds switch the device on and off; a double click activates the heating and cycles through the five temperature levels. While heating up, the light ring flashes; upon reaching the target temperature, it glows a constant blue and the device vibrates.

For error cases, there are fixed LED codes: if LEDs 1 and 2 flash, there is an interruption in the heating element; LEDs 2 and 3 indicate a short circuit at the temperature sensor, LEDs 3 and 4 an interruption of the sensor, and LEDs 1 and 5 an interruption of the balancer line. This makes troubleshooting without a display at least understandable.

Unlike the original Angus with walnut wood, the housing of the Enhanced is made of the technical thermoplastics PPSU (polyphenylsulfone) and PEEK (polyetheretherketone) – black plastic instead of wood, which does not become uncomfortably hot in the hand even during long sessions. The vapor path itself consists of glass and stainless steel; there are cooling fins on the back. The Angus Enhanced carries a RoHS certification.

The dimensions of the device are approximately 112 x 80 x 33 mm (without mouthpiece) and the piece weighs about 212 g. The device is therefore flat but not a pocket device, especially because the large glass stems need to be carried along. For this, a practical hard-shell zippered case with mesh compartments is included, in which everything has its place.

For a full session, 0.2 g to 0.25 g of herb material is intended, but smaller amounts work as well. Filling is done via the included loading funnel, which is simply screwed onto the top of the oven. A light tamp is useful, but overfilling is counterproductive: it hinders the convection airflow, and that is exactly what the heating principle relies on. Glass dosing capsules are available as accessories in a 3-pack, but are not included. It should be mentioned that the vapor is generally better without a capsule because the hot air flows through a compressed filling less effectively.

Maintenance is straightforward: brush out the oven after every session with the included brush, wipe it down with an alcohol wipe after about ten sessions, soak the screens in isopropanol, and clean the glass stems with warm water, an isopropanol bath, or boiling water. You should clean it regularly, as dirt can shorten the lifespan of the halogen bulb. Before the first use, we recommend two to three burn-off cycles to get rid of the typical "new device" taste.

It suits experienced users who like convection, enjoy tweaking airflow and temperature, and have no qualms about using replaceable batteries. Those who want to precisely set the draw resistance, choose between three stem lengths, and vape with a bubbler or water pipe adapter according to their mood will find an exceptionally complete set here. For session fans who like to slowly finish their 0.2 g over five minutes, the concept is also coherent.

The Angus Enhanced is less suitable for first-time buyers looking for a "turn-on-and-go" device, for anyone expecting a display and app, for users who need uncompromising pocket portability – and for anyone who wants to vape concentrates. The latter is simply excluded with this heating system.
